About this project

Stair rails get the most hand contact of any wood in a house, which is why many homeowners keep them stained even when the rest of the trim is painted. On this two-story foyer the golden oak handrails and newels were sanded and restained a dark espresso, and the balusters were painted white. The contrast makes the staircase a feature instead of a block of orange oak, and the dark rail hides everyday wear.

Scope of work

  • Handrails and newel posts sanded and stained espresso
  • Balusters painted white
  • Upper landing rail included
