About this project

Deep colors are the hardest repaints to do well: the new, lighter color has to cover completely and evenly, and the cut lines against white trim and columns have to be clean. This primary suite went from a saturated plum to a light gray across the bedroom, the sitting area with its columns and half walls, and the bath.

The homeowners stayed in the house, so large furniture was moved to the middle of the room and wrapped, the tub and tile were masked, and work lights let us check coverage as we went. Changing a dark color to a light one usually takes an extra coat; we plan for it in the estimate rather than discovering it on the job.
