About this project
These Plymouth kitchen cabinets had been painted before, and some of the lower cabinets were showing tannin bleed-through — the tan staining that appears when oak under paint was never sealed with the right primer. The kitchen was being remodeled with new flooring and a new island with raw-wood end panels, so the existing cabinets were re-sprayed to match the new pieces.
Every door and drawer front was labeled, removed and finished off site, while the frames were sprayed in place behind full masking. We degreased and sanded everything, sealed the new raw wood and the bleeding lowers with a shellac-based primer, put a bonding primer over the whole kitchen, then filled, sanded and caulked before two coats of Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane satin. Hardware, doors and drawers went back on last.
