About this project
This kitchen shows the full cabinet process from start to finish. The golden oak doors and drawer fronts came off to be sprayed flat, while the frames stayed in place. The kitchen was then sealed in plastic — countertops, appliances, floors and the opening to the rest of the house — so the frames could be primed and sprayed without overspray reaching anything else.
Because oak is full of tannins, every surface got a shellac-based primer before the finish coats. The built-in desk and wine rack across the room were painted to match, and the balusters on the loft railing above were painted white so the kitchen and the open two-story space read together.
