2026 prices for painting kitchen cabinets in the Twin Cities by kitchen size and per door, what is included in a professional sprayed finish, and the factors that push a quote up or down.

Open kitchen with white painted cabinets, island and pendant lights

The short version

Most kitchens cost $4,250–$10,500 for us to paint in 2026. Small kitchens with 15–20 doors and drawer fronts sit at the low end, and large kitchens with 30+ pieces, an island and a pantry sit at the top. Each range starts at the lowest price we can do that kitchen for, based on the hours each door, drawer and cabinet box takes through the process below.

What a professional price includes

A sprayed cabinet finish is mostly labor. For each door and drawer front: remove, label, degrease, sand, prime (shellac on oak), fill, sand again, two sprayed finish coats on both faces and all edges, cure, return and adjust. The frames get the same sequence in place behind masking. Materials — primer, a urethane-modified enamel like Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane, masking and sanding supplies — are usually 10–15% of the price.

What pushes the price up

  • Oak. Tannin-rich oak needs a shellac-based primer, and many homeowners want the grain reduced with extra primer coats or grain filler.
  • Glazed or detailed doors. Raised panels, beadboard and applied moldings take longer to sand and spray.
  • Color changes to dark. Very dark colors can need an extra coat for even coverage.
  • Damage and repairs. Water damage under the sink, loose face frames and worn edges near the trash pull need repair first.
  • Adding crown, light rail or new end panels.

What lowers it

  • A smaller scope: many homeowners paint only the island in a contrasting color.
  • Flat or shaker doors in maple or MDF.
  • Keeping the same hardware and holes.

Paint vs. replace

New cabinets mean new countertops, backsplash, plumbing and often flooring patches — commonly many times the cost of painting. If your boxes are solid, square and dry, painting is almost always the better value. See paint or replace oak cabinets?.

Getting an accurate quote

Count the doors and drawer fronts, take a few phone photos of the kitchen and the door style, and send them with your estimate request. We follow up with a walkthrough and a written price.

How we got these numbers: Interior and cabinet ranges are Paintcrafters’ own: each starts at the lowest price we can do that scope for. Other ranges are compiled from published 2024–2026 price guides of Twin Cities painting contractors. They are planning numbers, not quotes — every Paintcrafters price comes from an on-site walkthrough.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many doors and drawers does a typical kitchen have?

Most Twin Cities kitchens we see have 20–35 doors and drawer fronts combined. Count every door and every drawer face, including the island, pantry and any appliance panels.

Does the price include new hardware?

Removing and reinstalling your existing hardware is included. Installing new pulls you supply is usually a small add-on, more if new holes must be drilled and old ones filled.

Is painting the cabinet interiors included?

Usually not. Interiors are an add-on; most homeowners paint only the exterior faces, edges and the insides of the doors.

Can I stay in my home and use my kitchen?

Yes. Doors are finished off site, and the kitchen is out of use mainly on the one or two days the frames are sprayed.
