About this project

Old wallpaper in a stairwell is rarely a quick peel — the glue underneath usually needs as much attention as the paper itself. At this Wayzata property, we stripped dated wallpaper from the stairwell walls, washed away the residual adhesive, and patched the drywall underneath before priming it for paint. A water stain on the stairwell ceiling got its own targeted fix: a stain-blocking primer sealed it off first, so the new ceiling paint wouldn’t let the old mark bleed back through in a few months’ time — a small step that’s easy to skip and always regretted when it is. The result is a stairwell that finally looks intentional instead of dated.
